BOOK CLOSING INFORMATION

The voter registration books must be closed on the 29th day before each election and must remain closed until after that election. These dates are as follows:

star Updates to a voter's signature, address, and name are permitted during this time frame.

star New applications will be accepted but will be considered eligible voters after the election and voter information cards will be mailed to qualified voters.

star Party changes MUST be done prior to the 29th day of the registration books closing. All parties changes done during the time of the books closing will be placed on hold until after the election.

FLORIDA PRIMARYS

Florida is a closed primary state. This means that only registered Republicans may vote for Republican candidates and only registered Democrats may vote for Democratic candidates in a primary election. Registered voters with no party affiliation or with minor party affiliation are not eligible to vote for Republican or Democratic candidates, except in a Universal Primary Contest.

UNIVERSAL PRIMARYS

If all candidates in a primary race have the same party affiliation and the winner will have no opposition in the general election, all qualified electors, regardless of party affiliation, may vote in the primary election for that office. This is called a universal primary contest.
Note: Party changes must be made by the 29th day before an election.
